Dan Kalafatas
President & COO
3Degrees Group, Inc. |
Based in San Francisco, Dan leads
3Degrees Renewable Energy Certificate, Carbon Product, and
Utility Partnership Groups. In his capacity as Chief Operating
Officer, Dan has relevant experience in all aspects of the REC,
Carbon and Utility programs. Dan designed, ran, and launched all
of 3Degrees’ utility partnerships.
As COO of 3Degrees, Dan oversees all company operations,
including business development, contracting, supply management,
and general partnership operations. Dan is invited to speak
frequently at conferences on the Renewable Energy Certificate
and Carbon Markets as well as on how to structure and manage
successful green pricing utility programs.
A native of Massachusetts, Dan has a BA in Economics from
Dartmouth College, and an MBA with a certificate in Public
Management from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Margret J. Kim
Senior Advisor for International Climate Change,
California Air Resources Board |
Margret Kim is Senior International Climate Change Counsel and
China Program Director for the Air Resources Board and the
California Environmental Protection Agency. Previously, she was
appointed by California Governor Davis to serve as Public
Adviser to the California Energy Commission. Prior to her CEC
appointment, Margret was Deputy Secretary and General Counsel to
the California Resources Agency, a cabinet level agency with
over 30 departments and boards responsible for natural
resources. Before entering public service, Margret served as
General Counsel and Vice President of government relations to
diverse multinational corporations. Margret has extensive
litigation experience both as an associate and later as a
partner specializing in environmental law with firms in Los
Angeles.
Ms. Kim currently serves as Chair of the International Energy &
Resources Transaction Committee of the American Bar
Association’s Natural Resources & Environment Section. She is a
member of the Commission on Environmental Law of IUCN (World
Conservation Union) and was appointed to its Specialist Groups
on Environmental Governance and Energy & Climate Change. She was
visiting professor and Fulbright Senior Specialist at Beijing
University Law and visiting scholar at Tsinghua University
School of Public Policy. Margret is also a co-founder of Ecolinx
Foundation (a California non-profit to assist China transition
to a more sustainable energy and environmental future).
Ms. Kim earned a Master of Environmental Law and a Master of Law
in International and Comparative Law from George Washington
University National Law Center, a Juris Doctor from Southwestern
University School of Law, and a Bachelor of Arts from the
University of Southern California where she majored in
International Relations and Political Science.

Peter
Hsiao
Partner
Morrison & Foerster, LLP |
Peter Hsiao is a partner in the global technology and finance
law firm of Morrison & Foerster LLP. He is a member of the
firm’s Clean Tech practice and head of both the Land Use and
Environmental Law Group in Los Angeles and the firm’s Green
Chemistry Group. Drawing upon his science background as a
chemical engineer, Mr. Hsiao has more than 25 years of
experience in environmental law and clean technology, both in
the United States and internationally. He was Chair of the State
Bar of California’s Section on Environmental Law and is
consistently identified as one of California’s best
environmental lawyers by the Legal 500, the PLC Global 3000, the
International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers and the Los Angeles
Magazine.
Mr. Hsiao formerly served as a senior environmental trial lawyer
at the Justice Department during his appointment as an Assistant
U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California. Mr. Hsiao
was lead trial counsel representing the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency in major environmental enforcement litigation.
He obtained several multi-million dollar judgments for the EPA,
including cases involving enforcement of the volatile organic
compound limitations for consumer and industrial coatings, the
EPA’s power to request information under the Clean Air Act, and
the EPA’s unilateral administrative order authority. He received
the U.S. Department of Justice’s Special Commendation Award, the
U.S. Attorney’s Office Special Achievement Award, and the U.S.
Fish and Wildlife Service Golden Eagle Award. He also lectured
at the Justice Department’s trial practice institute on the
Clean Air Act and its regulatory enforcement.
In private practice, Mr. Hsiao advises Fortune 500 clients on a
wide variety of environmental, natural resources and toxic tort
matters, with a specialty in clean technology regulations both
internationally and at the national and state level. He practice
intersects the specialties of clean air, water and hazardous
waste regulation with the rapidly developing areas of
alternative and renewable energy, carbon trading, green
chemistry and green product claims. He is the co-editor and
co-author of the California Environmental and Natural Resources
Law Handbook, a comprehensive treatise in its 12th Edition. He
is asked to speak on a wide variety of clean technology and
environmental law issues, and has served as a lecturer for the
American Law Institute and the American Bar Association on clean
air regulations and litigation.

Rahul
J. Young, LEED AP

Mr. Young is a Senior Manager in ICF International’s San
Francisco office, and a LEED Accredited Professional. He
currently manages the office’s private-sector sustainability
strategy practice for clients such as Yahoo!, eBay, and Time
Warner and also leads projects in renewable energy new business
models and building energy efficiency. Mr. Young has over ten
years of experience in corporate sustainability strategy, green
building, residential multi-family and single-family
development, green building policy design, energy efficiency
program design, and city government administration. Mr. Young
served as the City of Berkeley, CA’s Green Building Coordinator,
designing and implementing the City’s LEED Green Building
Ordinance, overseeing the greening of municipal and
private-sector developments, and directing green building
education and outreach events. Mr. Young co-founded and chaired
the Bay Area Build-It-Green Public Agency Council, an
organization dedicated to bringing Northern Californian local
governments together to work collaboratively to develop green
building throughout the state. While working at WorldBuild, Inc.
with David Gottfried, Founder of the US Green Building Council,
Mr. Young managed the greening of over 20 building projects,
including the City of Santa Monica’s Public Safety Facility, the
State of California’s East End Complex and the Headquarters of
the California Environmental Protection Agency. He was the
primary author of the California Integrated Waste Management
Board’s Sustainable Building Implementation Plan, the founding
document of the agency’s green building policy efforts. Mr.
Young has also served on the Board of Directors for the
Sacramento chapter of Habitat for Humanity International.

experience launching and managing entrepreneurial ventures in

Valley, CA, Heidi is the Principal and Founder of Korala
Consulting, a marketing and strategy consultancy focused on
helping organizations achieve breakthrough results by shifting
their products, services and business practices to more
sustainable models which maximize “triple bottom line” profits
using financial, social and environmental measures.
